Abstract
The purpose of the research was: (1) to explore the current students’ subculture of the teachers’ college; (2) to compare the differences of subculture between background variables, and (3) to examine the correlations among the variables of value, attitude, and life style. “The Students’ Subculture Questionnaire of the Teachers’ College” was used as the instrument for collecting data. The samples of this research were 1890 college students (the freshmen were not included) from National Taipei Teachers’ College and National Taitung Teachers’ College. Data was analyzed by frequency distribution, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and canonical correlation, using software SPSS for windows 8.0.
The main findings of this research were as follows:
1. Students’ subculture reflected the characters of traditional gender culture.
2. The ranking of “economic values” for college students is rising, the ranking of “social values” is declining, compared to the finding of prior studies.
3. Students’ learning attitude was positive, but there were negative attitudes toward school’s equipment, course framing, and teaching quality.
4. Modern technique and media affected students’ main leisure activities.
5. Students keep relationships well with peers and teachers, but lack of interaction with teachers.
6. There were significant differences among gender, college, grade, SES, and school’s location in the students’ culture.
7. The variables of value, attitude, and life styles had significant inter-correlation.
Based on the above-mentioned findings, this research offered some suggestions in terms of teachers’ college education and future research.
