Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 國民教育研究所 === 90 === The Implementation of Authentic Assessment in the Teaching and Learning of Elementary Social Studies Abstract The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the possibilities, obstacles, and outcomes while implementing the authentic assessment in the teaching and learning of elementary social studies. Using the collaborative action research approach, this study was conducted in an elementary school located in the central-west part of Taiwan. Thirty third-graders participated in the study from February to July in the year of 2001. . The major findings are as the following: (1)After the implementation of the authentic assessment, the students have showed obvious progress regarding the interest, ability, and attitude while learning social studies. . (2)The improvement of the collaborative teachers’ professional competencies in the selection of teaching materials, the application of alternative assessment, the sensitivity in the process of teaching, and the management of classroom can be recognized. . (3)The implementation of authentic assessment in the teaching and learning of elementary social studies were influenced by some crucial factors. These factors include the content of teaching unit, the teacher''s experiences and competency in alternative assessment, the student''s experience in self-evaluation, the administrative support from the school board. .
