With that comes the concern for good health during the longer life. Some research reports that sports are helpful to human beings in heart and lung function thus reducing death rate and sickness while allowing more leisure and resulting in work efficiency. It is not sport per se but rather exercise of muscles and the cardiovascular system. Recognizing the link to exercise, health clubs have gradually become popular as way to address concerns with health. In USA membership in health clubs increased 51% in the decade of the 1990s. In Taiwan membership in health clubs is also growing. Health clubs generally provide people a climate controlled facility with a variety of equipment and the availability of professional or trained personnel to facilitate safe use of facilities offered. The Alexander Health Club with 23 branches in major cities is the largest club chain in Taiwan. Because in Taiwan health clubs are relatively new businesses, the business is in its growth and extension stage. This means that the business is in a stage of evolution in which many problems can occur and thus people in the business for the long run must understand what in happening generally as well as in particular businesses. This study, based on the Alexander Health Club, Tainan branch, is to be conducted by personnel interview with convenience sampling to develop survey and analysis methods to use to understand dynamics of the health club members’ participating motivation, constraints, experience and satisfaction. Mean difference, correlation and other statistical analyses will be employed in this study for achieving factors influencing behavior. By obtaining the above information, insights will be gained into the dynamics of health club business. Conclusions both about fitness impact and small business development impact will be reached. The findings of this research are to be presented to people in the health club business and to government agencies concerned with health, fitness and small business development. Tzung-Cheng (T.C.) 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 管理研究所 === 90 === Abstract
Because of the economic development, living standard enhancement, and medical environment improvement, the Taiwanese people’s life expectancy has increased.
