Two variables are also examined: teachers’ personal background and working experiences. The research method of survey was used in this study. The number of special education classes for hearing-impaired students was obtained from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. The research instrument was a self-designed “Survey on Elementary School Teachers’ Attitude of Acceptance towards Hearing-impaired Students in the Mainstream Program.” Totally 340 questionnaires were sent out; 323 valid ones were collected. The main results of this study were listed below: 1. Gender: Female teachers had more positive attitude of acceptance than male teachers. 2. Age: Significant differences were found in the affective and behavioral tendency components of attitude among teachers of different age groups. In the affective component, the group of 40-49 exhibited a more positive attitude than the group of 50 and above. In the component of behavioral tendency, the group of 40-49 was more positive than the group of 30-39. A significant difference in the overall attitude was also found between the groups of 20-29 and 50 and the above. The former had a more positive attitude of acceptance than the latter. 3. Grade of classes taught: General education teachers who teach lower grades were found to be more positive than those who teach higher grades in their attitude of acceptance toward hearing-impaired students. 4. Years of working with hearing-impaired students: Teachers with different amount of years of working with hearing-impaired students were found to have significant differences in their overall attitude. Those with two to three years of experiences were more positive than those with one to two years of experiences. 5. Experiences with hearing-impaired students: In terms of the way teachers perceived their experiences with hearing-impaired students, those who reported “very happy” had a significantly more positive attitude than those who reported “happy” and “moderately happy.” Keywords: hearing impairment, attitude of acceptance, teachers 張勝成 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 129 zh-TW
