Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 科學教育研究所在職進修專班 === 90 === Abstract The aims of the research were to explore the changes of students’concept understanding, learning motivation and the inquiry abilities after experiencing inquiry-oriented teaching on force unit. One class of 8th grader participated in the study. Researcher disseminated questionnaires on concepts, motivation and inquiry abilities before and after the inquiry unit. Open-ended questionnaire and interviews were also administered to the students in order to collect deeper understanding of the changing factors from the students. Researcher analyzed various qualitative and quantitative data to generate findings. Findings of the study indicated that inquiry-oriented teaching can benefit on students’ conception on force, but students still hold on some alternative conceptions. In the motivation aspect, quantitative data showed that students’ motivation decreased, while qualitative data showed increased motivation. Students’ inquiry abilities increased but not statistic significant. Obstacles faced in inquiry teaching were: timing, resources, students’ learning habit and pressure from school monthly examinations.
