Summary: | 碩士 === 國立體育學院 === 體育研究所 === 90 === The study was focused on the current status of professional preparation programs of sport and recreation management. All academic departments of sport and recreational management found before 2001 were sampled, and relevant data was collected from the “internet” of those departments. Document and content analysis were used to analyze the educational goals, teaching staff, academic curricular and future development of those departments. The results were as follows:
A. Educational goal was focused on preparation of sport and recreation managers.
B. Over 60% of the teaching staff of the Master's programs were faculty members with Doctoral degree. The educational status of the faculty members in sport management and leisure studies department was superior than sport and recreational management programs of all undergraduate programs.
C. Over 90% of the teachers of the Master's degree in sport management and leisure studies department were professors and associate professors, whereas majority of the teachers in sport and recreational programs were assistant professors. In undergraduate programs, more than half of the faculty members were associate professors in sport management and leisure studies department, whereas instructors were the main teaching force in sport and recreational programs.
D. The faculty expertise in Master's degree was centered in physical education/sport, related field such as forest, environmental education and leisure studies respectively. Among the undergraduate study, 40-60% of the sport and recreation department were in the physical education/sport category; over 60% of the leisure studies were in the "related field".
E. In the Master's programs, the required courses were " Management Leadership and Organization in Sport " and " Research in Sport "; whereas " Management Leadership and Organization in Sport " and " Sport Business in the Social Context " were elective courses. In the undergraduate study, " Management and Organizational Skill in Sport " was key required course, while " Management and Organizational Skill in Sport " and " Marketing and Sales in Sport " were elective courses. The diversity of courses in the sport and recreation relevant departments was so great that the curricula guideline and standard should be established.
F. The future development of the Master's program was focus on upgrading research on recreation and sport management and providing on-job training of sport/recreational professionals. For the undergraduate study, preparing quality human resources for various recreation and sport industries, strengthening the cooperation between schools and businesses, developing research center, and fostering exchange programs with foreign colleges/universities.
G. The ministry of the education should develop an evaluation mechanism for the sport and recreation departments in order to balancing the demand and supply of academic programs and sport/recreation industries.
