The first stage half-bridge converter is used for power factor correction and also produced dc voltage source for the battery charger and inverter. The second stage half-bridge converter is designed as a bi-directional buck-boost converter. The buck converter is used as battery charger to maintain the maximum energy storage in the battery during the utility voltage at normal mode condition. But, the energy stored in the battery is released to the load by the boost converter during the utility power outage condition. The final half-bridge converter modulates the dc voltage to sinusoidal ac voltage and supplies power to load. In addition, the first half-bridge converter can be used a boost converter in which extra batteries can be connected to provide more power to the load during the utility power outage condition.
