Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 電機工程學系碩博士班 === 90 === A novel electronic ballast for automotive HID lamp using variable-frequency control method is presented. The switching frequency of the proposed ballast is changed from 35kHz at start-up transition to 25kHz at steady-state operation. A boost converter is used to boost the 12V battery voltage to 30V and also to control the power to the lamp. Then a push-pull series-resonant parallel-load inverter is used to provide the high frequency ac voltage for the lamp. In addition, a cascaded multiplier circuit with spark-gap and transformer is designed to supply 18~23kV igniting voltage. By using the proposed circuit, about 10~15W input power is needed to supply to the HID lamp during start-up transition condition. The experimental results show that the proposed circuit can achieve low switching losses by zero voltage switching. Finally, high frequency electrical characteristics of the HID lamp operated at start-up transition and steady-state are measured and discussed.
