Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 物理學系碩博士班 === 90 === Applying a high/low voltage pulse, we can switch a bistable reflective polymer-stabilized cholesteric texture (PSCT) device between the reflective and transparent states. These two states are stable for years in the absence of voltage. In addition, this device is operated under the reflective mode without a polarizer. No backlight is required. As a result, it has potential for use as a display.
This thesis researches this PSCT device. Tasks include the fabrication of PSCT devices and the measurements of their reflection characteristics. In addition, using Berreman’s 4x4 matrix, we simulate the reflection characteristics of PSCT devices. It shows that the simulated results fit well with the measured ones. Thus this simulation provides us a good approach to predict the properties of PSCT devices, and save us not only money but also effort and time.
Finally in Chapter 5, I propose some ideas which deserve to carry out further with PSCT devices.
