The application of quality function deployment in product design can greatly enhance the reliability and effectiveness of product quality and performance. However, the identification of customer attributes and design characteristics and their respective relationships is quite subjective and needs further investigation. Therefore, the research uses the hierarchical clustering method and the analytic hierarchy process to help improve the identification and classification of customer attributes and design characteristics. The interpretive structural modeling and the multi-cell decomposition method will be used to reorganize the relationships between customer attributes and design characteristics. The results are expected to assist designers to clarify the mapping process between customer attributes and design characteristics.
