There are various diversified strategies for enterprise to keep growth. Researches indicate that different enterprise’s core competences and knowledge flow processes will cause corporate to use different diversified strategies for growing. Automobile industry used to be called as the leading industry of manufacturing industries. Taiwan currently has eleven automobile manufacturers, the majority of which have contractual joint ventures with foreign makers, mostly from Japan. These companies both produce and import automobiles. Due to limited parking space and the operation of several mass rapid transit system lines in urban districts, total automobile demand in Taiwan dropped more than 38% in the last decade, from 567,770 units sold in 1992 to 350,273 units in 2001. Domestic automobile manufacturers have worried that once Taiwan''s door for imported cars is officially opened with reduced tariffs, foreign vehicles will flood the market and threaten the survival of domestic manufacturers. To reduce negative impact, domestic automobile manufacturers try to increase competitiveness by reducing operational costs, continuous quality improvements, improving R&D capabilities, integrated resources and try to entering to new markets. And then diversification became the growth strategy and the way to reduce the impact of open domestic market. How to increase business core competences? The relationships between enterprise’s core competences, knowledge flow processes and horizontal diversified strategies in the automobile industry become the most interesting topic in this research. The result of this research can be illustrated by the following viewpoints: 1.The industrial structure of conglomerate enterprise engaged affects the enterprise’s knowledge flow process. 2.Enterprise’s core competency affects new company’s innovation activities. 3.Strong amorphous possessions are the key point for the conglomerate enterprise became successfully diversified.
