Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用日語學系碩士班 === 92 === Selection of appropriate vocabulary for Japanese education is a necessary to be considered in any training program. A fundamental vocabulary list is always needed when a textbook is going through compilation. This study is a vocabulary investigation on 4 reading textbooks for advanced learners, analyzing vocabulary distribution in 3 ways. They are (1) “Hinnsi” (part of speech) (2) “Gosyu” (types of words) (3) Vocabulary level (comparing with fundamental vocabulary list of "Japanese Language Proficiency Test: Test content Specifications"). The conclusion of this thesis is as following. (1) “Hinnsi”: The noun accounts for the largest proportion (above 50%), followed by the verb (about 25%). (2) “Gosyu”: “Wago” (the native Japanese words) accounts for the largest proportion (about 50%), followed by the “Kango” (borrowing words from Chinese or words created in Japan after Chinese), and “Konsyugo” (hybrid) in the third place. “Gairaigo” (borrowing words from foreign languages) accounts for the smallest proportion. (3) Vocabulary level: Level 2 vocabulary accounts for the largest proportion (about 35%). Secondly, large “non-examination vocabulary” is also noticeable. As for level 1 vocabulary, it is under 15%, insufficient for advanced textbooks.
