The study design was a stratified multi-stage cluster sampling with selection probability proportional to size. There were 836 participants with aged 18 years old or older in this survey. The data management was implemented by SAS software, and statistical analysis was conducted by JMP software. It was found that there were 54.01% of participants brushing their teeth twice a day. There were 75.95% of participants chose cross-sectional brushing, and 37.61% of them chose Bass method of bushing. There were 57.44% of participants use toothpicks and 37.02% of them use floss. The results showed that the lower educational level, married but single now, and men held less dental prevention, and also found that the older they are, the less oral health knowledge they needed to be improved. There were 55.68% of areca/betel quid chewers felt they needed to improve oral health knowledge. Those who use Bass method of brushing were characterized with younger and higher educational level. Those who use cross-sectional brushing are mainly composed by the middle-aged and elders. They have lower educational level and married but single now. Those who chew areca/betel quid, smoke and drink alcohol use mainly cross-sectional brushing and 100% of chewers and drinkers use this way. Those who have higher educational level, without bad dental preventive behaviors and using correct way of brushing hold more positive attitude toward dental care and dental visits. This study found most people do not visit a dentist at regular time. There were 76.50%of them often visit a dentist when they feel uncomfortable. There were 17.22% of them visit a dentist when they cannot tolerate pain. The average score cognition of areca/betel quid was 51.39. Only professional, middle-level administrative and presidents of small-scale companies got accepted mean score 66.42 in cognition (±17.20), but others are not accepted. The average attitude was 3.01(0-5 points). The present study also found those who had higher educational level, younger and not married got better mean scores in knowing danger caused from areca/betel quid and in attitude. But with higher professional level, subjects got better scores in knowing risk caused from areca/betel quid but it doesn’t show significant difference in attitude. There is not significant difference in cognition between urban and rural residents. But urban residents are against areca/betel quid much more than rural residents. The feeling of having healthy teeth shows significant difference from oral care attitude and behaviors. For those who have healthier teeth, their knowledge, attitude and behavior of oral health care are more positive. Those who have healthier teeth got much less systematic diseases than those who don’t. The topics of health education of most interest were dental care, periodontitis prevention and oral cancer self-examined. The present study shows there are different needs in each sub- population. It could be reference for future study. Key words: maintenance; dental visit; cognition of areca/betel quid; sampling yang, yi -hsin 楊奕馨 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 1 zh-TW |
