The study was a “nonequivalent-control group” design and used convenience sampling. Subjects were senior female college students at a university. There were a total of 887 subjects who were assigned to three groups: Web-based intervention group with 263 subjects, in-class intervention group with 201 subjects, and non-intervention group with 423 subjects. We developed four structural questionnaires, including demographic data, BSE knowledge, BSE attitude, and BSE behavior. The Cronbach’s alpha values for the questionnaires ranged from 0.70 to 0.87. The present study used in-class intervention process evaluation and interactive Web-site intervention process evaluation questionnaires to evaluate the intervention processes. After filling out the pre-test questionnaire, the Web-site intervention group accepted a 1-hour demonstration of using the Web site for interactive BSE education and free practice, the in-class intervention group accepted a 2-hour traditional BSE education, and the non-intervention group accepted no instruction. Data were collected four months and eight months after the health education intervention respectively to evaluate the effects of intervention. Percentage, chi-square test, McNemar test、one-way ANOVA, repeated measures two-way ANOVA were used to analyze the collected data and test hypotheses. Research results showed that there was no significant difference among the demographic data of the three groups. Comparing with the in-class intervention group and non-intervention group, the interactive Web-site BSE intervention group showed a better score and more significant behavior change in terms of BSE knowledge, BSE attitude, and BSE behavior four and eight months later after the intervention respectively. To summarize briefly, subjects’ evaluation of the interactive Web-site BSE education are as follows: (1) 88.3% of the subjects went through all Web pages; (2) 73.7% of the subjects indicated that the content of the Web site was easy to understand; (3) 93.9% of the subjects indicated that the content of the Web site was helpful to them; (4) 92.0% of the subjects were satisfied with the Web site; and (5) 84.0% of the subjects indicated that other universities should adopt our Web-site for BSE intervention education. Results of the present study could be a reference for school nurses who plan to develop BSE intervention education and conduct studies on Web-based learning.
