Effects of music therayp on women's pain perception and anxiety during labor

碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 護理學研究所 === 90 === The purpose of this experimental study was to explore the effects of music on women’s pain perception and anxiety during labor. The subjects were primiparas who had normal spontaneous delivery at two local hospitals in Southern Taiwan. Sixty primiparas were randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control group. The experimental group received general childbirth care and music therapy intervention after admission. The control group received just general childbirth care after admission. The intensity of pain perception and anxiety between the two groups were compared during the latent phase（the cervix dilated 2-4cm）and active phase（the cervix dilated 5-7cm）. The Visual Analogue Scale for Pain, Present Pain Intensity, and Present Behavioral Intensity measurement scales were utilized to measure pain perception. The Visual Analogue Scale for Anxiety was used to measure anxiety level. The physiological indexes including the intensity, duration and interval of uterine contraction, the vital signs and spaO2 were also measured. Repeated measures two-way ANOVA results indicated that the experimental group had significantly lower pain perception and anxiety level, and significantly higher finger temperature than the control group during the latent phase of labor. These findings provide evidence that music could be an independent nursing intervention to relieve pain responses, decrease anxiety and promote relaxation of expectant mothers during the latent phase of labor.
