Also the comparisons of the differences are made between the healthy students and the asthmatic students. The second-grade students of two junior high school in Tao-yuan County were selected as our target. Study participants were selected first by the physicians of Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital. Six screening materials were used to identify 94 asthmatic students, and density-sampling method was then applied to determine 94 healthy students with the same gender, seniority in the family, IQ, family socioeconomic status as the 94 asthmatic students. The total samples were 188 students. The group completed a self-administered questionnaire and the researcher collected all kinds of information of their school performances. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1. 44.7% of the asthmatic students had been at least once absent from school due to asthma and the longest were 74 hours. The girl’s were significantly shorter then boy. 2. 43.6% of the asthmatic students felt a worse health condition compared with other healthy students. 3. The asthmatic students physical adjustments were below the median, and the psychological, social adjustments were above the median. The girl’s physical adjustments were significantly lower then boy. 4. Smoking and alcohol consumption were few in asthmatic students. 5. School performances score and subject score satisfaction of asthmatic students were significantly higher then healthy students. 6. The physical adjustments of asthmatic students were significantly lower then healthy students. 7. Asthmatic students were significantly lower then healthy students in “ health condition compared with other classmate”. The results of this study indicate that asthma do affect the school performances and psychosomatic-social adjustments of junior high school students.
