An air conditioner powered by the solar energy and driven by a variable frequency inverter has been developed in the research to effectively use solar energy and to reduce peak power provided by the utility grid. Energy produced by the solar arrays is first converted into dc voltage source by a maximum power tracker and then, it is converted into a three-phase ac source. The air conditioner studied in this research includes a compressor which is constituted by a three-phase induction motor, a car used compressor and a circulatory cooler system of a conventional air conditioner. A software program has been used to access the data of the real-time temperature controller of the system. Accuracy and feasibility of the control system have been verified through the comparison of the control system designed in this research and the constant temperature control system used by a conventional air conditioner.
