Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 電機工程研究所 === 90 === This thesis is focused on using a new type of driving circuit for the sustainer to improve luminous efficiency of plasma display panels (PDPs). First of all, display principles, structures and characteristics of a PDP are introduced. Then, gas discharge characteristics and the techniques of address and display periods separated are described to help understand the PDPs. There exist the merits of high resolution, wide viewing angle and thin substrate in a PDP; thus, it is primarily suitable for wall mounted displays used in living room or commercial advertisement. However, the luminous efficiency of a PDP is lower than the that of a cathode-ray-tube display, reducing the consumers’ purchasing wish. To solve the problem, conventional driving waveforms by using space charge to improve luminous efficiency is first reviewed. These waveforms include two-tiered square waveform, waveform with a pulsed assistant voltage, and ramped square-waveform, from which comparison among their performance is conducted. Based on the comparison, a flyback circuit is then adopted to generate an assistant ramped voltage to improve luminous efficiency. The discussions conducted in the thesis are verified with a 46-in plasma display panel made by Chunghua Picture Corporation.
