Summary: | 博士 === 國立中正大學 === 中國文學系 === 90 === Lao Tzu, beyond doubt, is one of the most famous and influential philosophers in the course of Chinese Ideology. Though it is said that his major writing “Tao Te Ching” contains only five thousand words, yet the interpretations on it has far outnumbered. Among those significant commentators on Lao Tzu are Han Fei and Wang Pi. “Commentaries on Lao Tzu’s Thoughts” and “Illustration on Lao Tzu’s Thoughts” by Han Fei are taken as the earliest works to interpret Lao Tzu’s philosophy whereas commentaries later on by Wang Pi influence people more. Some agree with him while some don’t. The issue that who has the better understanding to Tao Te Ching is always controversial. The interpretation of the texts should be open to readers on condition that we all agree that the texts had been completed by the time the author passed away. All the interpretations, however, should be at least based on the written texts rather than merely on recklessly casual readings of one’s own. Meanwhile, we often regard “Tao” as the origin or substance of all; nonetheless, it is questionable whether this description can truly explain “Tao” or not. We, therefore, must review different interpretations in “Tao” before we answer those questions above. The main purpose of this thesis is trying to reconsider the interpretations on Tao Te Ching by Han Fei and Wang Pi on the basis of Hermeneutic, and provides a new interpretation on Tao Tzu’s metaphysics in the light of the bing-non bing horizon.
