The purpose of this thesis is to identify the usage of XML applied in Web-based IETM. XML is designed for ease of implementation and interoperability between SGML and HTML. XML is a subset of SGML, it describes the architecture of documents where data can be presented in any operation system platform. SVG is the new stardand on both web vector graphic and animation. They can be the key technology to the interchange of data and the solution to the problems of traditional bitmaps graphics for enhancing the capability of the next-generation IETMs. Through an example, we can further understand the importance of the XML and SVG to the future development of IETM, especially the Web-based IETM.
