The arc dimensions of the lamp determine the light source etendue. Once the liquid crystal display (LCD) panel are reduced, if the goal of high optical efficiency is still wanted to be maintained, the influence of source etendue on the high optical efficiency must be assessed. The designs of illumination system of the projector affect the luminance, uniformity, and contrast of the projective quality. The illumination system module of the projector usual includes the arc and reflector combination, lens arrays, and condensers. This thesis provides complete procedures to design the illumination system of the projector. Firstly, the initial illumination system module is derived by means of etendue and ray tracing.
