This research is aimed at discussing the rapid design operation mode under collaborative design environment by literature research, experimental test and analysis. It’s to know well the questions of communication between designers under collaborative design mode and further to find out the way regarding the design communication and operation procedure. The results obtained from the research will be applied to the planning of proper collaborative design communication and operation procedure. To understand the results in a realistic collaborative design environment, a famous computer case manufactory in Taiwan was used as a case study by video recording, questionnaires and interviews. The purpose is to discuss its process from importing collaborative design environment to its enforcement, analysis the effect of collaborative design environment in a design development department, the communication process of collaborative design environment, and the tasks explored. To compare the experimental results with the company’s earlier operation structure, suggestions of collaborative design environment to its design department were offered after analysis and integrating comments. The step of this study is to understand the real collaborative design enforcement situation at first; secondly to suggest the form of communication between designers under collaborative design mode and to complete the design project through efficient on-line meeting. However, the effect of collaborative design is caused of different kinds of cases applied. The results of this study will be helpful for understanding the problems within collaborative design environment and will serve as references for further research or enterprise enforcement as well.
