Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 牙醫科學研究所 === 89 === Abstract It has been shown that people with malocclusion in the anterior teeth and dissatisfaction with dental appearance are most motivated for orthodontic treatment in America and Europe. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of anterior teeth arrangement on the satisfaction of dental appearance and the demand for orthodontic treatment. A sample of freshmen in National Yang-Ming University was stratified randomly selected according to sex. Data were collected through structural questionnaire, clinical examination, and model analysis. 157 questionnaires and 114 study models were analyzed with Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, t test to compare the importance of various factors on the satisfaction of dental appearance and demand for orthodontic treatment. The results showed that (1) only 6.1% of our sample has normal occlusion. 80.9% didn’t have experiences of orthodontic treatment. (2) 69.6% of our sample considered that proper teeth arrangement is important for facial appearance. Irregularity of upper and lower anterior teeth is related to the satisfaction of dental appearance. (3) Satisfaction of dental appearance and anterior teeth arrangement and anterior occlusal traits were related to orthodontic treatment demand without cost considering. However, those were not related to orthodontic treatment demand under the consideration of cost. Irregularity of upper and lower anterior teeth and increased overjet were related to perceived treatment demand. (4) 21.9% of our sample has no need for orthodontic treatment. The others have different treatment need. Besides, 50% have demand for orthodontic treatment. However, only 5.2% have treatment demand under the consideration of cost. Demand and need for orthodontic treatment is statistical significantly related.
