Description
Summary:碩士 === 大同大學 === 光電工程研究所 === 89 === This thesis presents an overview of integrated optics devices and a systematic study of passive optical couplers fabricated by K+-Na+ exchange on soda-lime glass based on multimode interference. In our results reflection type of MMI has been fabricated and operated at 632.8nm wavelength. The underlying self-imaging principle in multi-mode is described by using the guided mode propagation analysis. Special issues concerning the design and operation of multi-mode interference devices are also discussed. Our results show that the multi-mode interference devices can offer superior performance, excellent tolerance to polarization and wavelength variations, and small device size, and a good agreement between the multi-mode interference theory and in experiments have been also demonstrated in this thesis with the advantages of glass waveguides that are attractive for economic reason and fiber compatibility. The width of our MMI device is 100um, the length is about 24.2mm, and the width of channel waveguides is 4um. We have used the fiber with reduced core diameters for coupling to increase the coupling efficiency of the between fiber and channel waveguide, thus the measured reflection type increase reflectance from 0.31% to 1.03%. We use the reflection of MMI to fabricate the temperature sensors and refractive index sensors and the results are also shown in this thesis.
