Abstract:
It contains four research purposes:
1. To analyze the changes of Asia situation during the
Post Cold War, and discuss the benefit of Singapore Country
and the change of strategic objective.
2. To discuss how to from the Singapore’s foreign strategy in
the Post-Cold War Era by the interaction and connection of
the internal and outside environment.
3. To analyze the variation of Singapore’s foreign strategy,
and evaluate its result.
4. To evaluate the form and development of Singapore’s foreign
strategy in the Post-Cold War Era, and its influence on
Taiwan and the whole Asia security. By this evaluation in
order to look into the future of Taiwan’s foreign strategy.
The research methods adopted in this research are literature survey and content analysis. Through the systematic research in order to realize the development process deeply of Singapore’s foreign strategy in the Post-Cold War Era . I hope that this thesis could provide some advice or reference for someone who is interest in study the Singapore’s foreign strategy. The thesis contains seven chapters:
Chapter 1: the introduction indicates the study motive and
purpose, research measure, research range and limit,
the study structure and term definition.
Chapter 2: the concept of small state diplomacy and the theory
of small state diplomacy. Simply define and
introduce the term「small state」and the position of
「small state」in the international system.
Chapter 3: the change of Asia system during the Post Cold War.
This chapter introduces the four international
environment factors, which affect Singapore’s
foreign strategy in the Post-Cold War Era. The four
factors are the withdraw troops of Russia and U.S.,
the third arm into the Southeast Asia, the fight for
sovereignty between the islands of the south China
Sea , and the arms competition of the states of
ASEAN.
Chapter 4: the influence of domestic environment. This chapter
introduces the three domestic environment factors,
which affect Singapore’s foreign strategy in the
Post-Cold War Era. The three factors are the change
of politic system, the stable development of
economic, and to build military forces
energetically. Besides, it also discusses the policy
mode of Singapore diplomacy.
Chapter 5: the principle of Singapore’s foreign strategy. It
includes that to think highly of relationship
between the region of ASEAN, the policy of non-
alignment policy, and the policy is anti-communism
and not non-communism.
Chapter 6: the specific contributions of Singapore’s foreign
relations. It includes the relations between the
neighboring country, ASEAN , U.S., EC, PRC and ROC.
Chapter 7: the conclusion provides the sum up of the whole
research, the gains from research learning and the
development in the future.
