The period of his literary creation lasted for around half a century and about thirty novels were produced at his hands. However, it was not until the early nineties that the literary critics formed more objective opinions of the works he created. Such a result inevitably has something to do with a group of writers in the military who were gathered by the policies of "anti-communism" and "militant literature". Moreover, the awareness of nativism in the seventies makes Chu*s exquisite art in writing novels doomed to be neglected in terms of social aesthetics at that time. However, it was in wartime when the freedom of speech was not so much unconstrained. It is hard for the juniors not to show their interest in and respect to a writer who steadfastly involved himself in writing in such a tempestuous period. To the literary critics, the undertones in the works of such a writer who constantly involved in the thinking of novels, history and politics (nationalism/nativism) are always big challenges. This thesis is based upon Chu His-ning''''s fictions, analyzing the constructionist and deconstructionist problems in terms of sexual politics under the masculine nationalism from the time of anti-communism and nostalgia to the period that is overwhelmed by the ideology of nativistism. Inasmuch as this thesis is aimed at demonstrating how important the role Chu played in modernist Chinese/Taiwan literature, the citation I used tend to be those works which were marked as the ones of "anti-communism" and "nostalgia". Chu*s works carry complicated and various idiosyncrasies, so the themes I discuss would include at least three dimensions: dialectical thinking of literature and history, nationalism and narrative in literature, and the construction and deconstruction of gender identification in nationalism. This thesis is based on the "detailed description" pointed out by Naomi Schor. This writing technique of "detailed description" can be named as a way for the author to imagine China and to settle his life, to throw doubt on the ideas about history in the traditional novels, and even to challenge the literature whose historical description has been stereotyped to be a certain kind of literary phenomenon or literary work. Chu His-ning often present the regionalism and the exilic life he settled in a different country through the truly depictions of everything in his novels. On the other hand, this kind of detailed narrative not only leads those people in exile to desires but also sublimates their nostalgia and desires. By this way, the detailed and the feminine which are traditionally identified as femininity together with the invincible masculinity much emphasized in the time of anti-communism rightly form a conception of "androgyny". The analyses and demonstrations of the writing strategies in the texts may help readers read the changes of Chu His-ning''''s fictions in different times, help modify the whole opinion about the Chinese literature and provide readers different interpretations and observations.
