First , the TiO2 nanoparticles was synthesized using sol-gel process followed by dip coating onto the indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate to form TiO2 thin film.Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) technique was then utilized to perform the morphology analysis form which the microstructure can be obtained. Same approach was also been applied for silver-modified TiO2 sample. Secondly, the interface structures of 1,2-diphenylethylene (trans-stilbene ,TSB) and deposited on HOPG surface were studied by STM. Due to the high mobility of TSB molecules on HOPG under the experimental condition, we are not able to observe odered structure for TSB monolayer. The designed derivative of TSB: possess long chain alkyl groups which are expected to have strong adhesion to the graphite surface.
