The findings indicate that: First, the level of vertical specialization has a significant impact on Taiwan’s various industries and the total trade value of each year. Besides, increase in the level of vertical specialization of Taiwan contributes significantly toward the expansion and growth of international trade. Secondly, out of the three major industries, manufacturing industry has the highest level of vertical specialization and continues to grow consistently. It accounts for 90% of the total contribution toward the total level of vertical specialization in Taiwan. Thirdly, in the manufacturing industries, the of machinery and transport equipment is the highest, indicating that of all the exported goods, the value added feature of manufactured goods is the highest. Fourthly, advancement in hi-tech industries enhances the growth of the economy, but from the perspective of vertical specialization, both hi-tech industries and traditional industries are important industries of Taiwan. Finally, in vertical specialization, whenever goods cross national borders, tariffs are imposed. Therefore, a slight reduction in the tariffs rate could have a major contribution toward the expansion of vertical specialization and growth of international trade. The analysis indicates that there is a statistical significance between vertical specialization and tariffs. The relationship is negative and the reduction of tariff produces the increase of the vs. Chen Hung Yi 陳宏易 2001 學位論文 ; thesis 63 zh-TW
