Appropriate techniques are obtained to improve the fault-locating methods, so that practical approaches can be established to determine the fault location of the cable rapidly and accurately. Thus, the recovery time of the cable failure may be reduced to maintain better quality for power delivery. In this study, the impulse current method has been improved and successfully applied to locate a fault in a 69kV XLPE underground power cable. A three-region cross-bonding structure for each common-conduit section is proposed to reduce the detection time of the fault. The Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP) is applied to simulate the induced current and voltage on the cable shields near the grounding locations for this structure. The results indicate that the proposed structure may satisfy the safety requirements. Besides, a bridge method is tested on a scaled model in laboratory to evaluate this method for finding the location of the fault in underground cable systems. In additions, an approach, called the DC current distribution method, to detect the fault locations based on the DC current distribution in the cable shields is studied. The Pspice program is employed to determine the current distribution in order to verify the application of this approach. YANG CHENG FA 楊成發 2001 學位論文 ; thesis 133 zh-TW
