To overcome the limits of traditional measurement machine for complex surface, the two-step measurement using pre-scanning technique has been applied widely. Therefore, this research is to develop an intelligent hybrid measurement system which includes software and hardware modules, such as CCD for pre-scanning、 precise measuring machine and laser probe module.
On the step of pre-scanning stage, the surface features are acquired by the CCD module. A feature database is obtained by using the technique of image edge identification to provide the information for the second-stage measurement. On the control of the measurement machine and laser sensor, both the measuring points and the appropriate measuring pitch are decided by using intelligent Grey theorem and Fuzzy control theorem individually. With the created feature database, it just have to change special recursive measurement on the local area to avoid the error decision caused by the abrupt curves. From the experimental results for a CD-938 surface measurement, this method can decrease about 20% measurement time and accelerate positioning of the proposed measurement machine and laser probe. Therefore, the goal of more efficient and accurate measurement for a complex free form surface can be also achieved.
