(2)To analyze the factors associated with the hospitals’ future investment plans in mental health services. (3)To analyze the factors associated with the health care institution managers’ personal future investment plans in mental health services. This cross-sectional study is conducted by mailed questionnaires to the hospitals provide mental health services, psychiatric rehabilitation institutions and psychiatric clinics in Taiwan, and by personal interviews on their managers. The major findings of the study are as follows: (1)The first three reasons health care institutions provide mental health services are: clinical necessity(51.6%),shortage of mental health services(45.1%)and government policy(42.6%). (2)The first three difficulties met during the set-up period are: poor operational profit(62.7%),hard to engage medical staffs(47.5)and shortage of government grant(34.7%). (3)Institutional characters, the socio-economic status and the amount of the mental health resources of the surrounding area of the hospitals located have different impact on the future investment plans of different types of mental health services in hospitals. (4)The health care institution managers personally have low motive to invest in mental health services.
