Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 電機工程學研究所 === 89 === Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) has been widely applied to rehabilitation of paraplegic patients suffering from spinal cord injury (SCI). Therefore, a feasible, portable FES system with multiple functions takes an important part in many different applications. Our research based on first generation FES system with DSP chips modifies the shortcomings and improves the efficacy of it. The efforts we made can satisfy the needs of the clinical experimenters. The study is divided into two aspects — hardware and software. In hardware, we replaced former circuit design and components with the new ones improving the new system more stable and adding more current output units and feedback control channels. We can use a few batteries to operate the system owing to power-saving design and switching power supply. In software, we tried to apply the pattern that every stimulating pulse is described by one RS-232 data transferred. Besides, combining this pattern with our previous one with “element” and “envelope” increases the facilities of use. To sum up, the portable FES system with our improvements consisting of the stimulator and the portable PC is successfully applied to functional movements in daily life like pedaling a wheelchair.
