Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 財務金融學研究所 === 89 === 英 文 摘 要 Title of Thesis: Research in enhancing competitiveness of the new banks 論文題目:提昇我國新銀行競爭力之研究 Name of Institute: Graduate Institute of Finance, National Taiwan University Graduate Date: June 30, 2001 Degree conferred: Master Name of student: Chu-Liang Lin Advisor: Dr. Dar Yeh Huang Abstract: The research categorizes the 16 new banks by its management background into conglomerate and non-conglomerate, and compares the competitiveness based on the five financial indicators and three non-financial indicators. The financial indicators include: debt-paying capacity, management capability, profitability, scale and growth potential. The three non-financial indicators are service quality, leadership and information technology. Conclusion: 1.Overall, the new banks with conglomerate background perform better than the non-conglomerate as evaluated by the five financial indicators. 2.The new banks with conglomerate background are easier to gain synergy from larger scale and group resources in business competition. This is also why the government aggressively encourages mergers between banks to enlarge its business scope. 3.Based on the non-financial indicators, the new banks with conglomerate background still perform better than non-conglomerates. Suggestions to enhance competitiveness of the new banks: 1.Strategies A.Cost-driven - to minimize the cost and maximize the profit. B.Differentiation — to develop differences with the peer banks. C.Focus — to identify niche products and centralize the resources. D.Globalization — to form strategic alliance, merge or directly invest in the overseas financial institutions. 2.Actions A.Develop re-positioning and re-organization B.Expand niche business and grow professional talent pool. C.Enhance information technology and internal control.
