Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北大學 === 資源管理研究所 === 89 === We reexamine the relationship between income per capita and environmental quality by using panel and cross-section data. In the EKC literature, EKC is usually estimated in the form of a single equation. However, we get that both income and environmental quality are endogenous variables. We test for exgeneity with the Hausman test and estimate simultaneous models using the two-stage least squares method with panel data. We also test for exgeneity and estimate the simultaneous models using SUR model by MLE with cross-section data. We find inverted-U relationships between SO2/TSP and income per capita. In the production function, we also find SO2 would be a negative effect on output significantly and TSP would be an inverse.
