Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北大學 === 都市計劃研究所 === 89 === Based on the “Need Hierarchy” theory addressed by Maslow, Inglehart, a sociologist, issued the “Theory of Value Change”. His theory mainly focused on change of the public’s value in the Western industrialized society. The conclusion was, having been long-term prosperous in economy, people tended to lay more stress on spiritual (mental) demands than on material ones. That was to say, there was a tendency moving towards “Post-Materialism Value” from “Materialism Value” in that situation. However, could Inglehart’s theory apply to Taiwan’s current situation? With a long period of booming economy, are Taiwan people stepping into the “Post-Materialism Value” era, just like what Inglehart expounded in the theory?
The data of this research is derive from 1993 Taiwan social change survey-social political cultural section. By the analysis of the Logit Model and Ordered Probit Model, we find out that:1. the portion which people has Post-materialism Value is about sixteen point twenty four percent and compare to Western, the percentage is inferior to Denmark, Holland, France and is superior to Italy, Germany, Ireland and is closer to Britain, Belgium. 2. In the analysis of socio-economic background, we find out those things as follow. The Post-materialism Value of women is higher than men. The Post-materialism Value of People with smaller age is higher than older ones. People engaged in Tertiary Industry are more possible to have higher Post-materialism Value than those engaged in others. People live in city are more possible to have higher Post-materialism Value than those live in country. People live in North of Taiwan have the highest Post-materialism Value, the next is those live in south of Taiwan and those live in central of Taiwan. 3. And in the analysis of the political behavior of people, we find out that political knolewdeg and the engagement of community routine meeting would be influenced by the essential values of people
