ABSTERACT The purpose of this study was to reveal of motivation and job satisfaction for high school physical education teachers in Taiwan. It was also to compare the differences between those high school physical education teachers’ demographic variables on their motivation and job satisfaction. In addition, it tried to probe the relationship between motivation and job satisfaction. Four hundred and eighty seven high school physical education teachers served as the subjects of this study. The questionnaire “Motivation and Job Satisfaction for High School Physical Education Teachers” was used as research survey instrument. According to the data from the questionnaires, mean values, standardized scores, One-way MANOVA, Multiple Stepwise Regression and Canonical Correlation were used for data analysis. The result showed that: 1. High school physical education teachers were in great demand on motivation, especially “job characteristics”. On job satisfaction, the “co-worker” aspect got higher degree. 2. Significant differences were found in high school physical education teachers’ motivation and job satisfaction. As a whole, those who were female, working at private schools, teaching less class considered motivation important. There also existed other significant differences of high school physical education teachers’ job satisfaction at other demographic variables. 3. The job satisfaction of high school physical education teachers could been predicted effectively by their demographic variables and motivation. Especially both “intrinsic rewards” and “work teams” had powerful predictability. 4. It existed a canonical correlation between the variables of motivation and job satisfaction in high school physical education teachers.
