Unpublished master thesis. National Taiwan College of Physical Education, Taichung. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate the physical education attitude in elementary school fifth and sixth grade. The influence of school site in city and country, gender and grades of the students on the physical education attitude was also studied. Total of 531 fifth grade and 520 sixth grade in Changhua County (N=38918) were selected randomly for study. The identification tendency and difference in physical education was studied using a questionnaire. The mean, standard deviation ,single factor variable for the collected data was calculated by SPSS statistics software. The main conclusion were summarized as below: 1. There was a significantly difference in the five categories of physical education attitude. The ranking form the highest to the lowest in identification tendency of physical education attitude is purpose, reputation of physical education, teacher’s behavior, self-performance and equipment and space. 2. The identification tendency in physical education attitude of the country students were higher than the civic students in the purpose of physical education, teacher’s behavior, equipment and space. 3. The identification tendency in physical education attitude was significantly higher in boy students than girl students. 4. The identification tendency in physical education attitude of fifth formers were higher than sixth formers in the teacher’s behavior, equipment and space and self-performance. These findings can be used as ruggestions or references while designing the curriculum of the 9-years compulsory education.
