The purpose of this study was to describe that the Adventure Based Recreation Activities promoted the self-esteem of the student of disability. According to the result, the concrete suggestions were raised for the reference to implement the Adventure Based Recreation Activities. This study adopted two groups, one is the “experiment” and the other is the “control”. Twenty participants in the experiment group, the student at the resource class in Chang Yi Junior High School, practiced one hour each day and five days a week during training period of four weeks. Twenty-three students in Zhong Ping Junior High School were served as the control group that has no any special activity during four weeks. The instruments, list of self-esteem, list of the repayment in the whole activity and list of repayment to procrastinate, were introduced by this researcher were used in this study. These instruments to proceed the test of preceding, test of afterwards and the test of procrastinate. The collected data was analyzed by one-way analysis covariance, the independent-samples t-test, within-subjects design t-test, and the descriptive statistics. And further, the whole groups were analysis to prove the basic theory of the Adventure Based Recreation Activities. The results of the study were summarized as followed:
1.The Adventure Based Recreation Activities showed significant instant and long-term effects to promote the students’ self-esteem.
2.The Adventure Based Recreation Activities showed no obvious difference on the promotion between male and female disabled students’ self-esteem.
3.The Adventure Based Recreation Activities were satisfied for the all samples of experiment group. They got 4 grade on “arrangement of activity”, “join again”, and “arrangement of curriculum”.
4.The samples of experiment group liked to move around after the activities, and felt the atmosphere of the whole group was happy.
5.The samples of experiment group promoted individual confidence, shared the experience of activity, were willing to get acquainted with another person, and dealt with different people. Then, they could put in use of daily life.
6.After thirty days, four activities such as “the test of tacit agreement, through five strategic pass, hanging down, climbing up” made deep impression on the samples of test because they were very difficult, and challenging, but very safe. It showed Adventure Based Recreation Activities made deep impression on everyone, and had the value of learning transference.
