There are many Judo amateur activities not only in schools but also in society. It’s also taken as training courses even in police departments and The army; therefore, it is easily understood why Judo sport has become a well-known technical fighting skill in Taiwan. The purpose of this research is to explore how judo sport has developed in Taiwan; the thesis adapts The “record analytical method” by collecting related historical information as collation. According to the author’s study, some conclusions drawn are as follows: 1. “Jujitsu” is the origin of Judo, It can be verified in historical records. The earliest division of “Jujitsu” was called “Takeuchi Party”, which was created by Mr. “Takeuchi Kyo Yai” in 1532. Another division was introduced by a Chinese Martial artist, Mr. Chen Yuan-Yun. Chen was a very important person who affected and contributed to the progress of Japanese martial arts. 2. On the whole, the development of judo during Japanese’s occupation played a crucial role in this sport’s later progress as the first generation of Taiwan’s celebrity was born after 1952 (Showa period),Since then Judo has been molded locally. 3. Because of special political circumstances resulting from the government being returned to Taiwan. Judo was terminated for a few years. Until the seventh (called Martial Performance) and eighth (called “Judo Performance”) province’s sports meet, Judo sport finally became an official event in the province’s sports activities. 4. Judo events were separated by different levels before 1964, and started to have competitions for junior high schools in 1957. From 1959, The college group was listed into Judo event.So After 1965, Judo events were graded by each competitor’s body weight as Level A (black belt) and Level B (white belt). In 1969, the province’s Judo Championships started to include women in the competitions. Key words ; Jujitsu , Judo , Japanese occupation , Showa period , Chinese Martial Arts。
