Further, the study was attributed what the meaning of domestic violence in their life. The significant findings in this study would help the prevention of domestic violence and the perpetrators’ intervention strategies in clinical practice. The phenomenological method of qualitative research was adopted in this thesis. Data was collected with an in-depth interview approach. The perpetrators’ psychological process pre, during and post domestic violence were investigated. The findings are as follows: 1. The possible factors resulting in domestic violence There are many common and unique factors that may affect the occurrence and development of domestic violence. These factors are coupled each other and have complex interaction as a twinning chain. 2. The perpetrators’ psychological process during domestic violence A four-stage development model can be derived from analyzed results. These four stages are: a. the events triggering marriage conflict; b. processing conflict; c. persistent stimulation events and triggered violence; d. the effects post violence. 3. The impacts after domestic violence Violence reproduction and marriage development may be affected by the factors such as a) the perpetrators’ cognition about the victims; b) the perpetrators’ thoughts and cognition post violence; c) the effects after sentence with violating domestic violence laws. Finally, these research findings will be further discussed. Based on the results, suggestions may be provided about the perpetrators’ intervention strategies in clinical practice, social policies, laws and further researches.
