Abstract
The main purposes of this study were:(1) to explore the division and content of lifelong learning literacy of public junior high and elementary school teachers;(2) to understand the situation of the lifelong learning literacy and professional attitude of public junior high and elementary school teachers;(3) to explore the relationship between lifelong learning literacy and professional attitude of public junior high and elementary school teachers;(4) and to provide suggestions as a reference for public junior high and elementary school teachers, schools, educational administration and future researchers.
To achieve the purpose, a questionnaire was developed to survey on 902 public junior high and elementary teachers in Kaohsiung area, 648 effective samples that were actually acquired. The measuring instrument consisted of two parts: “Public junior high and elementary school teachers’ lifelong learning questionnaire”, and “junior high and elementary school teachers’ professional attitude scale”. The data of questionnaires had been processed for statistical analysis under the “SPSS” statistics packaging software 8.0 for windows. The obtained data was analyzed by item analysis, factors analysis, frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, percentage, product-moment correlation, t-test, one-way & two-way ANONA, and one-way MANOVA.
This study has come up with the following conclusions:
1. The lifelong learning literacy of public junior high and elementary school teachers includes three divisions: “lifelong learning cognition”, “lifelong learning skill”, and “lifelong learning attitude”.
2. The lifelong learning literacy of public junior high and elementary school teachers had high degree, knowing the important of lifelong learning strongly, but lifelong learning skill needed promoting.
3. The lifelong learning literacy of the elementary school teachers had an advantage over than the junior high school teachers.
4. There was significant correlation between the lifelong learning literacy and professional attitude of public junior high and elementary school teachers.
5. The professional attitude of public junior high and elementary school teachers had high degree.
6. There was significant difference in the public junior high and elementary school teachers’ background toward the professional attitude.
Based on the results of this study, to provide suggestions as a reference for public junior high and elementary school teachers, schools, educational administration and future researchers.
1. Suggestion for public junior high and elementary school teachers: (1) lifelong learning should become a proactive action of professional development instead of passive in-service training; (2) enhance lifelong learning skill; (3) lifelong learning should start from regular teaching practice and combine with career planning. (4) teachers should constantly review their professional performance.
2. Suggestion for public junior high and elementary schools: (1) the principles and chairmen should become the learning leader of the whole schools’ teachers and students. (3) establish the concept that administration supports teaching.
3. Suggestion for educational administration: (1) combine current in-service training such that the learning opportunities can be accessed easily. (2) establish for teacher lifelong learning system; (3) teachers’ lifelong learning should be one of the considerations for the teacher career ladder system.
