In by two factor design was used in this study. The experimental groups, education program, nicotine-patches group and education plus nicotine-patches group was executed under smoking cessation program; control group was executed under wards daily routine. The subjects of this study were schizophrenia patients who were divided into experimental group for 38 patients, control group for 42patients in a psychiatric hospital. The content of the education program was modified from American Lung Association 7-steps to a smoke-free life. Nicotine-patches group was executed by using nicotine patches. Education plus nicotine-patches group was completed with the American Lung Association 7-steps to a smoke-free life in combination with nicotine-patches. GEE statistic method was used to show that: perception of susceptibility of smoking-induced diseases, severity of smoking-induced diseases, and benefits of quit-smoking would score higher as incremental periods they participated. Perception of disturbance of quit-smoking to health belief would score lower as incremental periods they participated. The results revealed improve in the education groups. In addition, nicotine-addictive amount of smoking behaviors, concentration of carbon monoxide and average numbers of cigarettes patients smoked per day in three experimental groups would decrease as incremental periods they participated and had a significant difference in statistics, control group still turned to neutral. The quitting rate of 4 weeks, 1 months post-test follow-ups was 8%, 16% in the education group of experimental group, respectively, 0%, 26%in the nicotine-patches group of experimental group, respectively, 9%, 27%in the education plus nicotine-patches group of experimental group, respectively. As a consequence of this study, suggestions were that schizophrenic patients were able to promulgate and participate in the plans of smoking cessation program even they were comparatively lack of knowledge of smoking-induced disadvantage. Therefore, we should actively advertise and promote the prevention activities of smoking-induced disadvantages, progressively cultivate nurses who had to be able to acquire knowledge and directive ability of quit-smoking, and plan a scheme on medical nurses taking part in the directive activities of quit-smoking group.
