The purpose of this study is to explore the implementation of gender equity education in Taiwan. The focus of this study including the general situation of the elementary schools and the junior high schools regarding gender education and it may have some trouble to overcome about implementation.
Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in this study. 564 surveys were sent to the teachers and the administrators of the schools;a 84.5% response rate was received. The data was analyzed through statistical method such as frequency distribution chart and Chi-Square test.
The main results of this study were as follows:
1. The system of school gender equity did not go into effect.
2. The capability and knowledge of the teachers and the administrators of the schools were not enough.
3. Female administrators were not encouraged.
4. The resources of the methods of teaching and teaching materials were inadequate.
5. The funds and the advertisement of gender equity education were not sufficient.
6. The extent of satisfaction about school safety environment is low.
7. The mass medium was full of unequal concept.
8. The support of the parents should be promoted.
9. Resource schools of gender equity did not work as the expectation of the education authority.
Base on the results of the study, several recommendations were provided as follows:
1. Recommendations to the educational authorities:
(1)The evaluation system should be built perfectly.
(2)Enhance the professional ability of teachers and administrators of the schools.
(3)Provide ample funds to schools.
(4)Design more teaching materials and distribute adequate resources.
(5)The media should be checked severely to build gender equity opinion.
(6)Social education and social assistance system should be established.
2. Recommendation to teachers, administrators of schools, and parents:
(1)The attitude of unequal idea should be changed.
(2)The safety of school environment should be improved.
(3)Increase communications among schools.
