Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 交通管理學系 === 89 === For the purpose of overcoming traffic-related problems like energy consumption, environmental protection and traffic safety, many well-developed countries in the world are working for the development of the “Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)” in recent years. However, it is still in the beginning stage for the domestic ITS development here in Taiwan.
Among all subsystems in the ITS family, the “Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS)” has generally been placed number one item for the ITS research and development.
Since various urban traffic signal control logics have become the primary foundation of ATMS and ITS, the central transportation authority has decided to standardize the urban traffic control software and required traffic control logics to prevent from the shortcoming of inconsistency for future urban signal control systems. Considering the arterial system become more important to the operation of urban network nowadays, the optimization scheme modification of arterial signal system has been chosen to be the topic of this research.
This thesis aims to enhance the bandwidth maximization theory for the arterial coordinated signals system. Also included are the analysis of the famous PASSER-Ⅱ Model and its improvements. Besides, a new concept of “Progression Opportunities (PROS)” has been introduced into PASSERⅡ-84 Model to enhance its optimization capability. Then the original performance index, i.e. Efficiency, has been replaced by the Average Stopped Delay Model of 1994 HCM to match with the PROS concept.
The finding of this research confirms its practical feasibility of arterial signal coordination system with PROS logic. The proposed improvements can significantly enhance the operation performance, e.g. system PROSs, system average delay, of arterial signal systems.
