An increasing number of studies on the codesign activity have been presented. However, these studies are focus on the areas of architecture and engineering, which are different from the industrial design concerning the design context, the structure of design problems, the processes, and performance of designers. In this study, we have tried to study the codesign activity of forming processes in industrial design domain, especially in the initial design stage. Protocol analysis is a scientific method to observe the behaviors of designers in a codesign team systematically. In this research, two experiments were conducted, one, the design group with reference photos, the other, the design group with no reference photos. By comparing the difference on design behavior of face-to-face codesign activity of two groups, the study has explored the pattern and content of codesign activity, and the use of design tools in the forming process. In addition, a coding scheme is developed to observe the form design activity. The finding indicates: First, there exists three different phases in codesign, namely, concept clarifying phase, ideas searching, and final concept development. Secondly, designers tend to discuss extensively in various issues before final concept development; then, focus on some certain form issues in the final concept development. The third, conflicts occur seldom in form codesign activity. The fourth, the more agreement the participants express, the higher consonance the participants achieve. Fifthly, the frequency of social contact and the number of times that sketches are leafed are the sign of the predicament in the codesign activity. And finally, the advantage of using reference photos in form codesign is mainly to assist the designers to clarify their concepts, secondarily to assist the evaluation of the concepts. 鄧怡莘 2001 學位論文 ; thesis 85 zh-TW
