碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 管理科學研究所 === 89 === The emergence of Application Service Providers (ASPs) has pointed a new direction for many companies to expand their information technology and maintain competitiveness in a much easier and cheaper fashion. This is especially important for the many small-to-medium businesses in Taiwan. The objective of this research is to understand the current status of ASPs’ role playing in Taiwan, how companies think about outsourcing their information technology function to selected ASPs , and, most importantly, their views of possible future adoption of ASPs as an integration tool to enhance their ability to compete in a global market. The study surveys several industries to see if there are differences in understanding and perceiving the ASPs’ service contents and quality. The results indicate that many companies in Taiwan still have doubts as to what can be accomplished with ASPs, and the main concerns are in two areas: the information infrastructure currently available in Taiwan, and ASPs’ own technological capabilities in providing a better, secured service.
