Summary: | 碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 天然藥物研究所 === 89 === Calophyllum is a tremendous genus of the family Guttiferae, most of which are distributed in tropic region, especially southeastern countries. According to previous studies, it indicated that the genus Calophyllum possessed the anti-HIV, antibacterial, antiinflammatory, piscicidal and molluscicidal activities. In order to investigate the biological activity of the genus, the experimental materials of Calophyllum wallichianum Planch.&Triana. (C.W)and Calophyllum tetrapterum Miq. (C.T.) were collected from Malaysia. Leaves, barks and stems for each species were separately extracted with methanol solution. The antioxidant activity of crude extracts was performed by cytochrome c reduction spectrophotometric method to determine its superoxide scavenging capability and xanthine oxidase inhibition test and FeCl2-ascorbate induced rat liver homogenate lipid peroxidation test , which in turn inhibits superoxide formation. Leaves, barks and stems of each species showed a strong inhibiting activity in cytochrome c reduction test, FeCl2-ascorbate induced rat liver homogenate lipid peroxidation test and xanthine oxidase inhibition test. In respect of antibacterial activity, both C.T and C.W were more active against both Bacillus cereus and Sarcina lutea. Furthermore, using XTT assay, the MeOH extract of Calophyllum spp. was exhibited a cytotoxic effect against cancer cells of SK-Hep-1、Hep 3B、K562, except for C.T revealed less effect against K562 cancer cells.
From the results of this study, it showed that Calophyllum species exhibit interesting activities. However, the isolation, purification and the action mechanisms of its active components need further investigation.
