This investigation is a descriptive study. One hundred seven patients and fifty-eight families were asked to finish the questionnaires. We analyzed these data, and then the following results were available. For part of the patient : reducing the chewing ability; regretting their previous unsound habits and the limitation of cooking methods and food in frequent order were the major stresses of the patients feeling mild- to moderate-grade stress by themselves. The relative stress factors of this group were treatment and drinking habit:how to improve the progression of disease ; informing the patient of their follow-up time, and the exact answers of the medical specialists for patient questions in frequent order were the main demands of the patients feeling moderate- to severe-grade demands by themselves. The relative demand factors of this group were age, education, occupational status, the number of child, admitted to hospital or not, and previous recalled at regular interval to examine the oral cavity. For part of the family: worrying that the illness of the patient might be progressive; worrying that the mood of the patient might be irritable and worrying that family will minimize their recreational activity for the patient care were the main care-stresses of the family feeling mild- to moderate-grade stress by themselves. The relative care-stress factors of this group were location of residence, healthy condition, quantity of care, and interaction between patient and family:how to improve the progression of disease ; the exact answers of medical specialists for patient questions and understanding the possibility of prognosis of this illness in frequent order were the main demands of the family feeling moderate- to severe-grade demands by themselves. The relative demand factors of this group were marital status, health care of oral cavity, sex of patient, and smoking habit of patient. The following results were found in this investigation. More the stress patients suffered, more the demand patients needed. More the stress family suffered, more the demand family needed. Keywords : oral cancer patients, family of the oral cancer patient, stress, demand. Tien-Yu Shieh 謝天渝 2001 學位論文 ; thesis 129 zh-TW
