Description
Summary:碩士 === 朝陽科技大學 === 營建工程系碩士班 === 89 === Abstract Taiwan island is located between the edges of two of the world’s major tectonic plates. Earthquakes occurred very often in these areas and caused many disasters in the past, especially the one occurred on Sept. 21 1999. Therefore, an investigation and evaluation of liquefaction potential for the central part of Taiwan is necessary and important. The focus of this research is on the areas in Taichung. Results of this research will be used and combined by National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research to build a nationwide geographic information system for disaster prevention and prediction during earthquake in the future. The objectives of this research are to collect and to synthesize digital maps, geological information, geotechnical design reports, topography, and old river channels in these areas. The geotechnical information includes boring log data, groundwater level, and soil testing data. These data are typed in Access using a specific format, and are managed and analyzed using geographic information system. Three methods, SEED’s simplified method (1997), Tokimatsu & Yoshimi’s method (1983), and the method suggested by NJRA (1996), were used to calculate the safety factor at each strata. The designed earthquake magnitude (M) and possible maximum horizontal ground acceleration (Amax) used were 7.5 and 0.33g, respectively. The method by Iwasaki et al. (1982) was used to evaluate the liquefaction potential of each borehole inside Taichung. The results show that several towns, including ChingHsui, WuChi, SaLu, LongChin, TaDu, WuJih, WuFeng, TaLi,TaiPing, inside the Coast Plain and along the Wu creek were susceptible to liquefy during the design earthquake. The results indicate that the judgement method using topography and old river channels for finding liquefaction susceptible areas is useful. Caution and ground modification should be taken into design and construction in these areas where susceptible to liquefy during earthquake.
