The quality system standard, QS 9000, was established by three famous automotive manufacturers, Ford, GM & Chrysler, which integrated different quality systems among the automotive manufacturers and developed this common quality system standard-QS 9000.
QS 9000 reaches the objectives that are to improve continually the production of automotive parts and related services, and to strengthen the international competitions for the automotive industry and its suppliers. By applying this quality system standard, automotive manufacturers could offer superior products and good services to customers.
Since August 1994, these three U.S. famous automotive manufacturers have promulgated QS 9000 First Edition(QSR Third Edition, March, 1998). Most companies of the automotive industry in Taiwan have understood the importance of QS 9000. However, there are still many problems and difficulties on the qualification process of executing QS 9000.
The primary objective of this research is to understand and analyze the key issues and bottlenecks of the process to QS 9000 quality system requirement of the automotive industry in Taiwan. This research includes two sections; The first section, it surveyed companies of the automotive industry in Taiwan that failed and succeeded in completing QS 9000 registration by use of questionnaires with statistical techniques. Furthermore, the performances after executing QS 9000 were evaluated by internal management and PZB model. The second section, it could provide and develop systematic procedures for QS 9000 process and internal quality audits that are helpful for companies of the automotive industry to qualify for QS 9000 registration by interview with the results of questionnaires and literature review.
The companies of the automotive industry in Taiwan can make good use of information of research results to execute efficiently QS 9000 and obtain maximum benefits.
